Moving Forward Together at the Start of an Exciting New Year

Whoever said January was dreary clearly hasn’t spent time at Cabrini High School. This month has been filled with celebration, faith, and momentum as our community moves through one of the busiest and most meaningful seasons of the school year.

Excitement continues to build around the progress of our gym renovations with the completion of the first phase now unveiled. That renewed space made an immediate impact as our basketball team opened play in the gym with a big home victory, an energizing moment for players, students, and Crescent fans alike.
Our soccer program has also given our community much to celebrate. The team’s remarkable season has featured high-scoring offensive performances along with impressive shutout victories, reflecting strong preparation, discipline, and t teamwork.

School spirit will be on full display this weekend as our cheer and dance teams take the national stage together for the first time. The teams will travel to Orlando to compete at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, a venue used by collegiate programs from across the country. Their hard work, unity, and commitment have brought them to this milestone, and we are proud to see them represent Cabrini on such a prominent stage.

Meanwhile, faith remains at the heart of life at Cabrini. We were blessed to celebrate a beautiful Right to Life Mass during which our Right to Life Club members were pinned and recognized. These students have since returned from Washington, D.C., where they joined thousands of young people at the March for Life in support of the dignity of the lives of both mothers and babies. These experiences remind us that faith at Cabrini is lived daily and carried well beyond school grounds.

That same spirit has been evident throughout Catholic Schools Week. Our liturgical choir was honored to be asked to sing at the Archdiocesan Catholic Schools Week Mass at the St. Louis Cathedral, and student artwork is proudly displayed at Lakeside Mall as part of the Archdiocese of New Orleans Catholic Schools Week celebration.
Together, these moments reflect a community rooted in faith, alive with talent, and moving forward with the joy of Jesus in our hearts.

NETWORK Launches Institute to Help People Organize

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the news, you’re far from alone. There are also millions of people who want to do something, but just don’t know what.

NETWORK, the Catholic social justice lobby, has an answer: Get organized.
The lobbying group started by, and still largely run by, Catholic sisters is launching its Organizing Institute, a four-month program designed to strengthen your ability to recruit new people into the movement against the rise of authoritarianism and unaffordability of daily living, build powerful teams and communicate an inspirational message.

The sessions are virtual and are Thursdays, every other week, from 1-2:30 p.m. Eastern, starting March 5 and ending June 25. The deadline to apply is Feb. 11, but officials advise applying as soon as possible. ~ from Global Sisters Report

MSCs, CAVS & Friends Unite to Provide Warmth in Winter

Cabrini University alumni and friends, in collaboration with the MSC Cabrini Immigration Commission, rallied before Christmas to donate winter clothing essentials – hats, gloves, scarves – for children in need in our partner school districts in Southeast Pennsylvania. These items were delivered just in the nick of time before Christmas to bring smiles and warmth.

Then, just after the new year, the Immigration Commission received an urgent request for coats for high school students in the Norristown School District. (Many of the earlier donated items were sized for elementary school children.) Our contact in Norristown shared that some high school students were coming to school without coats on the coldest days!

Again, due to the generosity of the Cabrini alumni and friends of the Missionary Sisters, last week, it was possible to purchase and deliver 30 brand new winter coats for high school students. The coats were distributed to students that very afternoon bringing much needed comfort to these young people.

World Day for Consecrated Life

In 1997, Pope Saint John Paul II instituted a day of prayer for women and men in consecrated life. This celebration is attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on February 2nd. This Feast is also known as Candlemas Day; the day on which candles are blessed symbolizing Christ who is the light of the world. So too, those in consecrated life are called to reflect the light of Jesus Christ to all peoples.

World Day for Consecrated Life will be celebrated in parishes this coming weekend.

Please pray for all persons who have made commitments in the consecrated life and be sure to thank them, especially, our Missionary Sisters, on their special day, for their service to the people of God.

We pray for those who are consecrated to God by the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience. May they always reveal the love of Christ to those they encounter and continue to enrich our world by their dedicated lives of prayer.

May they continue to be inspired by Jesus Christ and respond generously to God’s gift of their vocation.

On this day, we pray also, for all those who are discerning their vocation in life, particularly those whom the Lord is calling to consecrated life. May they be given the wisdom to hear God’s call and the courage to respond generously. ~ USCCB website

Sharing Culture Through Conversation and Cuisine

Cabrini Immigrant Services – Dobbs Ferry, NY (CIS-DF), had a special visit from some high school students who attend The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry. The students are enrolled in a special course entitled: Bring People Together Through Culture, Communication and Community.

The students, along with their teachers, visited with our Knitting Group. The students wanted to meet with our clients to learn about their different cultures, how they arrived in the US, etc. Some of the countries represented by our clients are Guatemala, Honduras, Chile, Mexico, Dominican Republic, etc.

There was a beautiful exchange between our clients and the students. One student asked, “How do you keep your culture alive in this country?” A perfect answer was by inviting the students to taste some of the delicacies that the clients made. The knitting group always shares different foods from their countries while they knit and crochet. They feel that using recipes from their countries is a perfect way to keep their traditions alive.

Our clients gave the students some advice. They told them that they are the future and that they must work to make the world a better place. Special News from the National Shrine

January 21, 2026

Bishop Daniel Turley and Pope Leo XIV, both Augustinian priests, worked together for many years in Peru. In fact, at one point, Bishop Turley was the Pope’s (Fr. Robert Prevost) supervisor.

On January 2, 2026, Bishop Turley met with Pope Leo XIV, which was the first time the two have seen each other since the Pope’s election. In the photo at the Pope’s desk, Bishop Turley is handing the Pope a letter from our National Shrine’s Board Chair, written by the Shrine’s Board Chair, Kathleen Sprows Cummings, regarding the 80th Anniversary of Mother Cabrini’s canonization.

Bishop Turley and Pope Leo XIV had a wonderful visit, catching up with each other as good friends.

National Eucharistic Pilgrimage 2026

Walk with Jesus. Pray for the nation. Follow the journey.

In honor of America’s 250th year, the 2026 National Eucharistic Pilgrimage will carry the theme One Nation Under God. One Nation Under God is not a slogan—it’s an invitation to realign our lives, communities, and country under the sovereignty of Christ. It’s a call to build unity through prayer, and to let Jesus, present in the Eucharist, renew and heal the heart of our country, one soul at a time. As pilgrims on this route, we walk with Christ so that His love might draw our nation back to Him.

The pilgrimage begins over Memorial Day weekend in St. Augustine, Florida, where the first Mass in our country was celebrated at the Our Lady of La Leche Shrine at Mission de Nombres. The route will continue up the Eastern Seaboard through most of the 13 original colonies, reaching as far north as New Hampshire and Maine. Stops will be made in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, our country’s very first Catholic diocese, as well as the Archdiocese of Boston to visit significant national historical sites. The pilgrimage concludes over the 4th of July weekend in Philadelphia, in honor of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

As the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage unfolds, the Perpetual Pilgrims will carry the Blessed Sacrament across the country, engaging the universality of the Church by stopping at parishes in both urban centers and rural communities. Their journey will pass by some of the most historic landmarks along the East Coast along what has been named the St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Route. ~ National Eucharistic Pilgrimage website

From the St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Shrine, NYC: The perpetual pilgrims will stop at the Shrine on June 16 and 17 to make a 2-day retreat. We are sending each of the “perpetual pilgrims” a 2nd class relic and will be praying for them each by name during their long walk. We are thrilled to have them come!

Bringing JOY at Cabrini Immigrant Services of NYC

On December 20th, Cabrini Immigrant Services of NYC held our annual gift distribution and Christmas celebration. We enjoyed delicious food, lively games, and abundant laughter with our beautiful community. The event helped ease financial and emotional stress for participating families while creating positive holiday memories for children. We were able to distribute toys, coats, and gift cards to 69 families (119 children) in need. Many of the parents in attendance expressed deep gratitude for the support in a year where purchasing gifts would have been particularly difficult.

We are deeply grateful to our generous donors, volunteers, and staff who made this event possible. Thank you for the opportunity to demonstrate the joy, strength, and unity of our community in these challenging times.~

Bright New Beginnings

The program was presented by Joely Caro, an intern from Westchester Community College.

The program began with reflections about 2025. Everyone received a journal/notebook to write their personal reflections down. Following, they reflected on their goals for 2026. After sharing with one another, the painting and sipping, (coffee and orange juice) began.

The picture chosen was a beautiful sunset. It was chosen to symbolize a new

beginning. With the setting of the sun, a new day begins anew.

The clients were so grateful to have some time to stop and reflect after the hecticness of the holidays. Everyone was so proud of their ‘works of art.’
