In preparation for Mother Cabrini’s Feast Day, Cabrini High School hosted a wonderful celebration of the Eucharist where the 50-year graduates (Class of ‘72) joined us in honoring our foundress and received a special pin to commemorate their golden anniversary.
A reception was held following Mass in the lovely Esplanade Courtyard located on Cabrini’s campus.
On
Saturday, September 17 a citizenship drive was held at St. Frances Cabrini Shrine in conjunction with the non-profit Dominicanos USA and the City University of NY. A team of 20 pro bono attorneys reviewed over 95 applications for U.S. citizenship. Seventeen applicants who lacked the ability to pay the application fee were granted fee waivers. Most applicants had lived in the U.S. for at least 10 years, with some here as long as 40.
Beloved by all on campus, on Thursday, September 8th, faculty, staff and administrators turned out to wish Sr. Grace Waters, MSC a fond farewell as she leaves for her new mission at Sacred Heart Convent in New York.
Sr. Christine Marie Baltas, MSC, hosted a reception for Sr. Grace in the University’s Wolfington Center. Interim President Ms. Helen Drinan joined the festivities as Sr. Grace did the honors of cutting the cake.
For years, Sr. Grace has been a gentle presence, stopping by the various campus buildings to share a pleasant word with staff members, attending sporting events, and encouraging students to keep up with their studies. She and Sr. Christine Marie would take regular strolls through campus and share greetings with all whom they encountered.
Sr. Grace would often remark, “how come everyone knows who I am?” We would respond, “because you are famous!”
The campus community will deeply miss her warmth and friendship.

The Cabrini Cupboard, the University’s on campus food pantry, will offer an expanded variety of fresh food and accessories this year in an effort to serve students across the food insecurity spectrum.
The reimagined Cupboard has been open all summer, offering students fresh vegetables, meats, and dairy products, as well as toiletries and other items. Angela N. Campbell, PhD, Vice President, Mission, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging and Student Engagement, said the aim was to create the feel of a market inside the Cupboard – a vision that has been realized through partnerships with the University’s Wolfington Center and Campus Ministry forged with local farms and community organizations.
Ray Ward, PhD, Director, Cabrini’s Wolfington Center, through which students engage in service work with the Cupboard, said that the Pierce Foundation enables some of Cabrini’s “brightest and most civically minded students” to “pursue innovative approaches to ending hunger and food insecurity in our own communities.”
Hunger and food insecurity are best addressed in partnership with those who understand it first-hand, and we have seen that some of our most powerful advocates in this fight have been students working out of their own struggles with obtaining good meals,” said Ward.
The Wolfington Center has partnered with Martha’s Choice Marketplace, a food pantry in nearby Norristown, PA, bringing in fresher, healthier foods than standard grab-and-go snacks and microwave meals. Increased refrigeration capacity has also brought a wider variety of food, such as meats and dairy.
The Cabrini Cupboard receives two shipments of food monthly from Martha’s Choice and has seen great support from the Pincus Family Foundation. More food and accessories are donated each year from the Cabrini Cavalier community at large, including faculty, staff and alumni.

On June 7th, Julia Attaway, Executive Director of the St. Frances Cabrini Shrine, NYC receives a document case from Janet Bauman, Scanning Specialist Holy Spirit Library, Cabrini University. The document case contains materials from the St. Frances Cabrini Collection at Cabrini University.
The materials which include Mother Cabrini’s business card, checks and promissory notes signed by Mother Cabrini, and a facsimile of the Saint’s will are on loan to the shrine for the upcoming exhibit, “The Everyday Life of Mother Cabrini.” The exhibit is set to open in July.

On Saturday, June 4th, Cabrini Lay Missionaries of the Guadalupe Province, along with caring Cabrini partners, gathered at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Shrine in New York City for an afternoon of song, prayer, discussion and reflection on the meaning of hope. Our afternoon was facilitated by Lucille Larrivee Naughton, retreat leader, spiritual director and music minister.
Our afternoon began with a lovely buffet lunch followed by song and prayer. We were then ushered into the conference area where Lucille asked us to examine and reflect on the meaning of hope for ourselves, beginning with our personal hope and extending outward to include family, local community and finally the global community and Mother Earth.
We gathered in small groups at discussion tables, shared with one another and then reported to the entire group. All of this took place virtually as well, and included participants from all over the United States and Central America. Simultaneous translation was provided.
There was room for creativity as well. Participants were given the opportunity to express how hope lives in them by designing a patch that will become part of a quilt representing this hope.

The Distinguished Educator Award is presented annually to teachers who have done an outstanding job preparing their students to succeed in high school. ach year, Cabrini students who demonstrate outstanding character and hold a GPA of 3.5 or higher are given the opportunity to nominate an elementary school teach who has had a positive impact on their lives. In the nomination, students are asked to share why they selected the teacher and the impact the nominee has had in their lives and in preparation for high school and beyond.
Cabrini High School President, Jack Truxillo, addressed the Distinguished Educators and guests. “You have made such an impression and had such an impact on your former students that they chose to go through the nominating process. That itself speaks volumes. The influence you have daily on students is immeasurable. The terms, parent, protector, counselor, nurse, referee, disciplinarian, coach, leader, expert, task master, time keeper, planner, janitor decorator, supervisor and finally, instructor, all fit in your job description. But, as we all know those are just a sampling of the jobs you do. Be assured that the work you do is valued. It is recognized.”

After months of deliberation, we have decided to relocate our office to another part of the city to continue the mission of bringing God’s love to vulnerable communities. On May 2nd, our office will officially open at the St. Frances Cabrini Shrine in Washington Heights (701 Fort Washington Ave, New York, NY 10040). Our Food Pantry will also be located nearby at the Church of the Good Shepherd (608 Isham Street, New York, NY 10034). We will be forever grateful to the Lower East Side/Chinatown community for welcoming us and allowing us to be of service. We will not forget the gestures, both big and small, that made us feel welcomed and at home in this neighborhood.
We are looking forward to continuing our work, strengthening existing relationships, and building new relationships in our new neighborhood. All of our programs will continue to operate and serve clients from all over New York City, as they have for many years. This new, larger space will provide more opportunities for growth for our organization, and the possibility of exciting new projects as we continue to expand.
Thank you for supporting us through many transitions, moments of growth, and challenges over the past two decades. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us more than ever the importance of community, and we are grateful to have you as part of ours.

Cabrini High School hosted a Lenten Evening of Reflection on Tuesday, March 29th in the Sacred Heart Chapel on campus. All Cabrini High faculty, staff, students, and friends of Cabrini were welcome to attend.
The night began with snacks and refreshments in the courtyard, until everyone gathered in the chapel to commence the Lenten Evening. Deacon Uriel Durr, the pastoral minister at Cabrini, shared a Lenten talk which was followed by reflection time, adoration, and confession. Guests were also invited to view Mother Cabrini’s Bedroom and 
Exhibit Room, which is recognized as a local shrine in New Orleans.
The evening culminated in a celebration of the Eucharist, led by Father Emanuel Mulenga, Cabrini’s campus chaplain. It was a wonderful night full of prayer. Thanks to all who made this evening possible and to all who attended
