The Sacred Heart Center for New Americans, located at Cabrini on Hudson in West Park, NY is a place of welcome and information for immigrant families.
The primary goal of the mission is to provide support to immigrant families, assisting school age children with access to available opportunities and to improve their student achievement, as well as teaming with local resources to provide services and support through community partnerships, advocacy, empowerment, enculturation, parenting and life skill programs.
The population served would be immigrants from Latin America, Caribbean Islanders and other new immigrants of the area from Ulster, Orange and Dutchess counties which are part of the Hudson Valley in Upstate New York. Our primary catchment area is Ulster County.
The work of the education program is to provide instruction for students of all levels including but not limited to:
- English for Speaker of other languages (ESOL)
- Literacy Promotion
- One-on-One, Small group learning
- Mentoring relationships
- Citizenship Exam preparation
- Preparing parents for ongoing school expectation of their children
- Computer training
- Job skill training thru BOCES of NYS
