On Saturday, March 29th, the Delaware Valley Member Area of the National Religious Vocations Conference (NRVC) hosted a day of retreat for young adults which was held at the farm of the Holy Redeemer Sisters in Huntingdon Valley, PA. The theme was “Blooming Where You are Blown: Where is God Calling You?”
It was a day designed to offer young adults an opportunity for reflection, prayer, quiet, community and counsel regarding following their path in life.
The following passage was included in the journal for the day: “It’s nice to be gently “planted” somewhere, and with the gifts of sun, wind and rain to grow tall and bloom. Many times, however, life around us can change rapidly and the winds of change often swirl around us…not knowing where we will land. And yet, our God continues to call us to life, to joy, to hope and to love. God’s timing is rarely our own. Just when we think we have designed the perfect plan, God comes in and after a brief chuckle, reminds us that we will want to live out our lives according to his purpose.”
The day was developed and orchestrated by an inter-congregational group of vocation ministers. Much of the retreat was focused on planting seeds and being attentive to what it takes to nurture seeds once they are planted in our lives.
Mr. Jim Malinowski, a Director of Religious Education at St. Pius X Parish in Broomall, PA, served as the keynote speaker, sharing his personal story of discernment.
The participants planted flower seeds to be grown on the farm and had ample time for conversation and sharing. It was a day of fellowship, and with prayer, a day of self-discovery and direction.
