On November 9th, Cabrini Prahran, celebrated its 10th Anniversary of caring for people with a life threatening illness with two well attended celebratory events.
A special commemorative book commissioned for the occasion – ‘A Life Well Lived’ written by Amanda Place was launched during the morning’s activities by Melbourne personality, Dan Webb. This wonderful book features a number of inspiring stories about the lives of patients who have received care at Cabrini Prahran.
Attending the event were Board Chairman, Professor Peter Phelan, Cabrini Chief Executive, Dr Michael Walsh, President of Palliative Care Australia, Professor Margaret O’Connor and several other board members as well as a host of Cabrini staff.
Staff who had been at Cabrini Prahran for 10 years, cut the celebratory Birthday cake and enjoyed catching up with the families of past patients as well as former staff.
Cabrini Palliative care recognizes the individual needs of a person with life-threatening illness. The focus is not on cure, but on treating the symptoms by making patients comfortable, by controlling their pain and helping them to make changes to make their life easier. It aims to make the patient feel in control of their treatment and their quality of life.
Importantly, Palliative care at Cabrini Prahran also involves family and friends of the patient, recognizing that they too may need help in coping with the illness of someone they love.
