Built to house many, Cabrini Senior Housing in Seattle, Washington is called home to residents of different nationalities. To honor Mother Cabrini on her Feast Day, Sr. Renee Kittelson, MSC and a group of residents assembled for mass at St. James Cathedral, just across the street.
Later that evening, Sr. Renee and the residents gathered in community to enjoy dinner. Brought from their homes, the dishes served were of the flavors of their homelands. Filled with good food and conversation all sat together for prayer. Candles were lit in front of the pictures of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Frances Xavier Cabrini. The resident community and Sr. Renee sang “Veni Sancti Spiritus” in Latin and Vietnamese. The holy rosary was intertwined with scriptural readings and excerpts of the life and spirituality of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini. The prayers were recited in English, Vietnamese and Tagalog. Like the candles illuminated in front of the pictures, our prayers rose to God in a simple and beautiful manner.
Final hymns sung were the “Salve Regina” in Latin and Vietnamese and the “Holy God we praise thy name” in English. How great is the Lord Our God in his created world around us. How beautiful are the expressions of his people!
