Cabrini High School celebrated its 50th Anniversary with five days of events culminating in a special Mass on Sunday, September 13, on the Cabrini campus. Celebrants for the mass were Archbishop Gregory Aymond, and former Archbishop Alfred Hughes, Very Rev. Neal McDermott, O.P., and former chaplains of the school Rev. Kyle Dave, Rev. James Jeanfreau, Rev. Robert Massett and Rev. William O'Riordan.
The special liturgy was attended by six Missionary Sisters, the Board of Trustees, school administrators, faculty, and representatives from each graduating class, along with special invited guests.
The celebrations included an opening ceremony on Wednesday, September 9, during which the current students, faculty, and staff gathered at the steps of historic Esplanade building and were welcomed by Sister Catherine Garry, MSC, herself a former principal of the school, and Sister Alice Zanon, MSC, a current faculty member. Following the sisters’ greetings, everyone proceeded to Mass marking the first day of class exactly 50 years ago.
On Thursday, October 10, the Homecoming Pep rally, parade, announcement of the Homecoming Court, a barbeque, and a volleyball game were held to mark the day’s festivities. The alumnae gathered to celebrate on Friday evening with a cocktail party while the students enjoyed their Homecoming Dance in the gymnasium. Saturday featured the annual Alumnae Tea where the alumnae of the original class of 1959 were recognized and honored for their contributions to Cabrini High School.
It was a fitting celebration for a truly significant milestone for Cabrini High School.
