On Thursday, May 14th, Cabrini Immigrant Services of NYC hosted a Virtual Dance Party to raise funds for our Queens COVID-19 Response Project in collaboration with our friends at Los Herederos. Throughout the night over 100 generous donors joined us: dancing in front of their computers, playing board games, sewing face masks, showing off their pets, enjoying a drink, and more! Attendees enjoyed DJ sets by the Los Herederos Sonicycle, Pdrito “El Criollo” Erasco, and the Prince of Queenz, and had the opportunity to win fun prizes (including the original of the painting displayed below-right). It was incredibly meaningful and uplifting to see everyone come together for a moment of music, solidarity and community during this challenging time.
Thanks to the support of those who joined us, CIS-NYC and Los Herederos will be able to continue our efforts to assist 50 immigrant families living in Elmhurst, Corona and Jackson Heights, Queens, NY. We surpassed our fundraising goal for the event, and with the proceeds will be able to continue delivering food, face coverings, and other supplies to these families every other week for at least 12 weeks.
Our volunteers will also be able to use Los Herederos’ Sonicycle to ensure that members of the broader community in these neighborhoods know their rights and have access to vital resources and services to help them navigate this crisis. Funds raised will also support Los Herederos’ efforts to lift up the stories of our immigrant community members who have been directly affected by COVID-19 to ensure that they are not forgotten as our country recovers from this pandemic. Thank you to all who joined us for this special event!
