Cabrini Immigrant Services held its annual Liberty & Justice Awards Reception on Thursday, December 8th at Estherwood Mansion in Dobbs Ferry, New York. The event was held in honor of Sr. Damien Ciminera, MSC and Dr. Eric & Donna Garfinkel. Sr. Damien has been a beloved and dedicated volunteer teaching students at Cabrini Immigrant Services. Dr. Eric and Donna Garfinkel have supported the program for many years. A special dedication was held in memory of Tom Pettit, a dear friend and volunteer of Cabrini Immigrant Services.
The evening was made even more special with the surprise presence of Provincial, Sr. Pietrina Raccuglia, MSC and New York State Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins both of whom shared moving remarks about the importance of supporting newcomers to the country.
The event will benefit the services of Cabrini Immigrant Services, which include: English for Speakers of Other Languages (“ESOL”) Programs, after-school homework help program, assistance with naturalization and immigrant issues, aid in procuring benefits, provision of health screening and referrals, and various other support and educational services.
The honorees were recognized for their dedication and service in empowering and educating immigrant families and the community. Each of the honorees has played a key role in shaping Cabrini’s programs and services and we are grateful to them and all who supported this important fundraiser.
