SUMMARY:Mother Cabrini Day - October 3\, 2022
DESCRIPTION:In March of 2020\, the Colorado Legislature passed Frances Xavier Cabrini House Bill 20-1031 into law\, establishing Frances Xavier Cabrini Day as a Colorado State Holiday. The first paid state holiday in the nation that recognizes a woman\, Cabrini Day will be observed in Colorado annually on the first Monday in October. \n\nMother Cabrini dedicated her life to helping the poor\, the sick\, immigrants and those less fortunate. Her story is rich with determination\, grit and an unshakable faith in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This day is about her story and we are eager for people to learn of it and be inspired by her life and all she accomplished. \nWe will celebrate Cabrini Day on Monday\, October 3\, 2022 with a 12 p.m. Mass in the chapel. Other planned activities at the Shrine include a scavenger hunt\, a preview of a soon to be released movie about Mother Cabrini herself and the opportunity to walk the Shrine grounds and learn more about our saint.\nFor more information about Cabrini Day or to take the Cabrini Day Pledge\, visit www.cabriniday.com

SUMMARY:World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly
DESCRIPTION:VATICAN CITY (CNS) – Pope Francis is dedicating the 2022 World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly to the importance of inviting older people to contribute to building a better world. \n Pope has chosen “They shall bear fruit even in old age” from the Book of Psalms (92:15) as the theme for the second world day\, which will be celebrated on July 24\, 2022. \nThe theme “intends to emphasize how grandparents and the elderly are a value and a gift both for society and for ecclesial communities\,” said a February 15 communique from the Dicastery for Laity\, the Family and Life\, which was promoting the world day. \nThe same day\, the Pope tweeted that elderly “should be cared for like a treasure of humanity; they are our wisdom\, our memory. It is crucial that grandchildren remain close to their grandparents\, who are like roots from which they draw the sap of human and spiritual values.” \nThis year’s theme “is also an invitation to reconsider and value grandparents and the elderly who are too often kept on the margins of families\, civil and ecclesial communities. Their experience of life and faith can contribute\, in fact\, to building societies that are aware of their roots and capable of dreaming a future based on greater solidarity.” \nThis invitation to listen to the wisdom of the years is also particularly significant in the context of the synodal journey that the church has undertaken.” \nPope Francis established the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly celebrated each year on the fourth Sunday of July to coincide with the feast of Sts. Joachim and Anne to emphasize the pastoral care of the elderly as a priority.

SUMMARY:Feast of St. Josephine Bakhita - International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking
DESCRIPTION:This Day of Prayer is held on February 8th each year. In addition to prayer\, the day is a call to action: \n“Our awareness must expand and extend to the very depths of this evil and its farthest reaches…from awareness to prayer…from prayer to solidarity…and from solidarity to concerted action\, until slavery and trafficking are no more\,” says Cardinal Peter Turkson. \nIn this sense another goal of the day is to encourage people to act and to take concrete steps to help eradicate slavery and trafficking. Indeed\, an essential part of freedom is our ongoing effort to ensure it is woven into the fabric of our society. \nTo access more information please click here  \n

SUMMARY:World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life
DESCRIPTION:About World Day for Consecrated Life\nIn 1997\, Pope Saint John Paul II instituted a day for women and men in consecrated life. This global celebration is attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on February 2nd. This Feast is also known as Candlemas Day; the day on which candles are blessed symbolizing Christ who is the light of the world. So too\, those in consecrated life are called to reflect the light of Jesus Christ to all peoples. \nThe celebration of World Day for Consecrated Life is transferred to the following Sunday in order to highlight the gift of consecrated persons for the whole Church. \nThere are several ways to celebrate World Day for Consecrated Life. Invite sisters\, brothers\, and priests to publicly renew their vows at Mass\, send cards of support to newer entrants\, ask to visit a mother house to meet and pray with sisters\, brothers\, and priests\, invite a vocation director to visit your classroom\, Board meeting\, or faith group to learn more about consecrated life. Send flowers\, make a donation to a religious community\, or invite someone to discern their vocation to consecrated life!

SUMMARY:National Vocation Awareness Week
DESCRIPTION:National Vocation Awareness Week (NVAW) is an annual week-long celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States dedicated to promote vocations to ordained ministry and consecrated life through prayer and education\, and to renew our prayers and support for those who are considering one of these particular vocations. \nObservance of Vocation Awareness Week began in 1976 when the U.S. bishops designated the 28th Sunday of the year for the celebration. It was later moved to Feast of the Baptism of the Lord in January. In 2014\, after extensive consultation\, the Committee on Clergy\, Consecrated Life and Vocations moved the observance of National Vocation Awareness Week to November to engage Catholic schools and colleges more effectively in this effort. For social media posts\, use either #NVAW or #NationalVocationAwarenessWeek \n

SUMMARY:Immigrants\, Migrants and the Making of New York - St. Frances X. Cabrini Shrine
