Barrels of vibrant Sunflowers and glasses overflowing with Italian wines were just some of the touches of Tuscany that appeared throughout Tappan Hill Estates in Tarrytown, N.Y., as Cabrini of Westchester celebrated its 12th Annual Sharing in Mission Dinner, “An Evening in Tuscany.” On April 28, 2010, the event hosted over 220 guests, and raised over $130,000. Surpassing the fundraising goal, the evening proved to be an outstanding success and a moving tribute to its distinguished honorees.
Among the 2010 honorees were DeCicco Family Markets, Jansen Hospice and Palliative Care and Cabrini of Westchester’s own Director of Rehabilitation, Kathleen Birnbaum. Honorees were chosen for exemplifying Cabrini of Westchester’s mission which calls on individuals and corporations to serve as leaders, educators, advocates and sponsors of high quality services in the communities they serve.
“The recipients of the Sharing in Mission Award receive a beautiful Orrefors Odyssey Bowl,” said Patricia Krasnauksy, President and CEO of Cabrini Eldercare. “The bowl symbolizes that invisible vessel into which each of them has deposited their personal gifts of time, talent, or treasure to be shared with others and in support of our common missions: to make this world a better place for all, but especially for those with needs.”
In addition, New York State Senator, Andrea Stewart-Cousins was presented with the Partners in Quality Award by the New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. The Senator received the award for her dedication, awareness, support and advocacy of the needs of long term care. Westchester County’s Deputy County Executive, Kevin Plunkett, was also in attendance and served as one of the dynamic speakers of the evening.
Cabrini of Westchester was also delighted to host some visitors from Cabrini Health in Australia. Robert Zahara, Board Member and Director of Commercial Laundry at Cabrini Health, Marj Clarence and her husband, George Clarence celebrated with Cabrini of Westchester after a full day of touring Cabrini Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation is New York City and Cabrini of Westchester in Dobbs Ferry.
While many tears of joy were shed from honorees, their families, friends and colleagues, reverberations of laughter were also heard throughout the reception hall, as Radio Personality, Mike Bennett from 100.7 WHUD was Emcee as well as unofficial comedian for the event.
“The funds raised at this event go a long way toward furthering our growth and our Mission,” said Donald Amoruso, Chairman of Cabrini of Westchester’s Board of Trustees. “We are proud of the high quality compassionate eldercare we deliver and thanks to our supporters we are privileged to serve a countless number of elders in our skilled nursing facility, short term rehabilitation program, home care programs and adult day health care program. In these challenging times facing healthcare and our economy, your friendship and support is more important than ever and we thank you.”
