Cabrini Linen Service is Victoria’s leading state of the art commercial laundry facility, producing 5.6 million kg (approx 12,346,000 lbs) of linen per week and employing 120 staff from a variety and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The service includes top of the range deluxe linen products for the Health and Hospitality industry, including sterile theatre bundles and a popular dry cleaning service.

This innovative business has proven to be a successful way of generating income to support Cabrini’s health services as well as our community outreach programs. Much of the success of the Cabrini Linen Service can be attributed to the hard work and diligence of our multicultural team and training is an essential part of the business.

According to Ralf Pelz, Executive Director, Hospitality & Retail Services at Cabrini Health, the team feels a responsibility for the disenfranchised within our community and helps by providing ongoing employment and training opportunities.

The majority of the staff come from non English speaking backgrounds and would have difficulty in getting a job.

The staff has a strong tradition of supporting others less fortunate. They donate blankets and offer friendship to homeless street kids, the assist in financing education for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS in Swaziland and they support the long term care of high risk youth.
The long-term strategy to tackle environmental issues remained high on the agenda. Over the year, Cabrini Linen Service recorded further water savings of 0.5 litres for every kg sold (approx 0.13 gal per every 2.2 lbs) or 2.8 million litres (approx 740,000 gallons) for the year – about the size of an Olympic swimming pool! Increases for gas and electricity initiated an energy audit to identify areas for improvement and to enable benchmarking against similar operations. As a result overall consumption has been reduced by 5% per kilo (5% per 2.2lbs) compared to the previous year.

The Linen service received a special commendation from the Australian Achiever awards for highly consistent levels of outstanding customer satisfaction over a five year period, averaging 95% in customer satisfaction, unequalled within the industry.

Many of the staff working at Cabrini Linen Service find it rewarding to work for a business which is not only committed to excellence but puts something back into the community in more ways than one!
