Sr. Regina Casey, MSC
“I am happy where my feet are!”
Sr. Regina Casey, MSC
On the last 19th of July, I returned to the United States after eight lovely years in Australia. During that time, after some training and other hospital experiences, I worked in the palliative care ministry at Cabrini Health. It proved to be one of the richest experiences of my life. However, as 2007 was drawing to its close, I realized that I needed to contact our provincial regarding my status in Australia. I had only received successive temporary visas which meant that, at the end of each period, I could eventually be refused renewal. There was no possibility of being granted a permanent vies because of my age. Thus, I wrote to Sr. Lucille Souza, who was the Provincial at the time, and shared the situation with her. After some reflection and prayer it was agreed that I would return to the U.S. in 2008. It was hard to leave so many friends and co-workers but I was resigned to going back.

After a period of R & R, including a two week vacation together with some of our sisters at Seaside, Park, New Jersey, I was missioned to St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry, New York in August.

Pastoral Care is very strong at this site, too. There are over 300 residents, many of whom are Catholics along with others of different denominations. All seem welcoming and, if able, they enjoy a visit from time to time. I work here part time as a volunteer. I feel very much a part of the staff, a small group who are lovely to work with -- generous, thoughtful and truly dedicated. We enjoy a good laugh, too.

The building renovations and additions are slowly reaching completion resulting in a beautiful environment for the residents and ourselves. Sr. Adeodata and I are living in the new convent located within the first floor. It is a warm and welcoming environment, nice to return to after a number of visits to the residents during the day.

I am very grateful for the Lord’s goodness to me and for the warm welcome of sisters and other friends upon my return. As one sister often says, “I’m happy where my feet are.” I, too, am “happy where my feet are” and I thank the Lord for all the graces He has showered upon me during this time and throughout the many years of my life!
