2010 Lenten Reflections by Missionary Sisters - Fourth Sunday of Lent March 14, 2010
During Lent, the Missionary Sisters will share a brief reflection. The reflection for the fourth week in Lent is by Sr. Barbara Leonardo, MSC.
Reflection for Fourth Sunday in Lent – March 14, 2010
Joshua 5-9, 10-12, Psalm 34: 2-7, 2 Corinth. 5:17 – 21
Luke 15 1-3, 11-32
After reading and praying over the selected readings for the Fourth Sunday, I was drawn to Paul’s letter to the Corinthians and to Luke’s account of the parable of the prodigal told by Jesus.
As I reflected on Paul’s 2nd letter to the Corinthians, I was taken by the phrase “Christ…has given us the ministry of reconciliation…”. The parable told by Jesus speaks of reconciliation both with the father and with the brothers. All of this speaks to me of the theology of the Sacred Heart which is such a core essential of our charism. In a world of conflict, jealousy, greed and selfishness, it is a challenge to be called to reparation and reconciliation. We don’t often hear the words spoken by the father in the parable – “You have always been with me and all I have is yours….”. As Easter gets closer it seems to me that we are called once again to listen with gratitude to all THE FATHER has given us and done for us. We rarely get used to the reality that we are loved UNCONDITIONALLY and that we are witness to that love. For me, personally, the phrases from Paul’s letter “…the old things have passed away; behold new things have come,” describes my life. Reconciliation is a daily given and reparation is a challenge.
