Dating back to 1892, Cabrini Medical Center, then, Columbus Hospital, was the first medical facility that Mother Cabrini established. Today, Cabrini Medical Center continues to provide healthcare to the many immigrant communities of New York City, especially the Latino community, with its Latino Health Initiative. In response to the growing geriatric and medically frail population of the community, Cabrini sponsors three programs specializing in home based physician care: The Visiting Doctors Program, Cabrini Alzheimers Care and the Baruch Elder Services Team (BEST) on the lower east side of Manhattan.
In 1980, Cabrini Medical Center established one of the first hospice programs in New York State and continues as a model for hospital-based hospice care.
In 2006, Cabrini Medical Center formed a clinical alliance with Mt. Sinai Hospital, NY. Both institutions are seeking to find better and more effective ways to serve populations at risk. Cabrini Medical Center is Healing New York One Neighbor At A Time.
