After the General Chapter XVI of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus which took place in July, 2008 in Codogno, Italy, the place where Mother Cabrini founded the Institute in 1880, the new General CouncilMissionary Sisters Patricia Spillane, Aparecida Correa deCastro, Loredana Manzoni and Joan McGlincheydevised a new strategy for communication in the Institute.
Since 1990, the Missionary Sisters had published Vita Cabriniana four times a year in four languages with photos and articles from missions around the world. However, in October 2008, the council thought it would be better to use electronic means of communication which would be faster, cheaper and more efficient. Therefore, they decided:
- To publish and distribute electronically on a regular basis a General Council newsletter, translated in four languages, focused on their own world-wide activities on behalf of the Institute, including brief notes on significant developments in the provinces and regions.
- To encourage every province and region in the Institute to publish electronically their own local newsletter on a regular basis and distribute it via Internet in the original language to all the other provinces and regions.
Thus was born in December 2008, Together on the Journey, from the General Council. Subsequently in January 2009, a series of bulletins from the various provinces and regions, some of which for the first time, were published. In this manner, each area of the Institute is taking responsibility and pride in publishing their own stories, as well as the various publications produced by different apostolic institutions in various parts of the Cabrini World. Together on the Journey is posted on both the Stella Maris website www.mothercabrini.org as well as the Institutes international website www.msccabrini.org. Since that international website, originating in Rome, already has sections in each of the four languages of the Institute, eventually all the Institutes bulletins will be posted on that website.
